Who We Are
Fair World Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that exists because we believe that a fair world is possible. A world in which the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the jobs we work can benefit both people and the planet.
Founded in 2010 to promote and protect fair trade principles and accuracy in labeling, our vision has continued to grow. Small-scale farmers and artisans the world over benefit from fair trade, yet the challenges they face are more complex than can be tackled in a single transaction or the story of a single product.
The Problem
We believe that a truly just economy must work in the interest of all people, especially those who have historically been the most marginalized. The farmworkers who are exploited on large farms in the North are often from the same communities as the small scale-farmers who struggle to make ends meet in the Global South. Family farms around the world face volatile prices, struggle to access markets, and to earn fair livelihoods. The common enemy: Unfair trade policies and corporate-friendly practices.
Today, climate change continues this pattern, further jeopardizing livelihoods of the most marginalized.
Our Solution
We believe that when we stand together, we can create change. We strive to provide you actionable analysis to align your purchases with your values, whether you shop the grocery store to feed your family or lead a purchasing team for a store, school, or institution. We believe that you should be able to trust the labels in the store, so we act as a watchdog to hold companies and certifiers accountable to the principles they have committed to.
While we believe that conscious consumers have great power in the marketplace, we also believe that strong policies are essential to create a fair world and we provide tools to connect you to your elected officials and other decision-makers so you can weigh in the policies that shape our society.
