We need public policies that truly benefit the public, so everyone can prosper—not just a handful of powerful corporations. Unfortunately, when it comes to free trade agreements, the exploitation of people and planet is all too common. As consumers, we have the power to “vote with our dollars,” but that alone is not enough. It is critical that we also engage in local and federal policy reform to transform “business as usual” to a global economy rooted in justice and cooperation, and moving from “free trade” to “fair trade.”
