In this episode of Mother Earth News and Friends Jereme Zimmerman and Victoria Redhead Miller chat about basic mead and beer making, and have a lively discussion about the history of beer and alcohol around the world.



Jereme Zimmerman is a writer and traditional brewing revivalist who lives in Kentucky. He has been published in various magazines and websites, and travels globally to speak on topics such as fermentation, natural and holistic homebrewing, modern homesteading, and sustainable living. He is an avid fermenter and researches extensively into traditional fermentation practices in order to revive lost food arts and to educate people on how to preserve food using traditional, natural, and healing ingredients and techniques. His first book, Make Mead Like a Viking, was published in 2015, and was translated into German as Met Brauen wie ein Wikinger in 2016. His second book, Brew Beer Like a Yeti was published in September 2018.

Victoria Redhed Miller was born in Champaign, Ill., and grew up in Seattle, Wash., in a family of 8 children. She married David Miller in 2000. No children. They moved to their off-grid farm in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains in 2006. Victoria completed Washington State University’s Sustainable Ag class in 2008, and received her Master Food Preserver certification in 2009. She started raising heritage chickens, turkeys and ducks in 2007. Her first Mother Earth News Fair presentation was given in 2011 (Puyallup, Wash.).
