For several years now I have stopped buying fruit marketed by Dole or Chiquita after a friend spoke to me of a book named Banana which explained that these companies were responsible for atrocious violence in Latin America. It is my own tiny political act but I would not eat bananas if these companies were to profit. I was so happy to find fair trade bananas at my co-op. I am SO grateful. My son and I eat tons of them! The only chocolate I eat, pretty much, are Equal Exchange bars and I didn’t realize that the same organization got bananas to Middlebury Vermont! I love Equal Exchange and I love the AsoGuabo Co-op!

This is not socialism, but cooperation. Unfortunately, big concerns do not always work well along side of small entrepreneurs, but seek to eliminate them as competitors, because profit not family is their objective.
